You guys put together a GREAT Lighthouse Challenge. Kudos to EVERYONE. Both of us had an Awesome time. We hit every lighthouse. ALSO.. I wanted to tell you there wasn’t much that could be changed with the Challenge. You all really did your homework and it showed. …my compliments on a JOB WELL DONE!! Now REST, you deserve it. I hope to see you other cruises and challenges.

I just want to say
that my two children, ages 8 & 6, and I had a fantastic time on the Lighthouse
Challenge. It was a great experience and I'm glad I got to share it with them.
All the volunteers were wonderful and helpful and full of information. We met
quite a few people and saw them at the different lighthouses and that was fun
for the kids. Children can ask a lot of questions, some of them odd, but
everyone took the time to answer them, and
I truly believe that they learned a lot, even if they don't really realize it
yet. My children conquered a big fear and climbed the steps of the Fire Island
Lighthouse and was rewarded with an amazing, slightly foggy, view. I was very
proud of them...We were able to complete the challenge... This will be a weekend
that I will remember forever, sharing this part of Long Island with my
children.

Thank you so much for holding the Lighthouse Challenge and arranging the discount at the Islandia Marriott. My boyfriend and I had a great time!! We were very pleasantly surprised that we were able to photograph the lights with few or no people in them as we had expected that to be a problem. But with the lights spaced apart as they were and people setting their own pace, it worked out great. …I must commend you and all involved on the fabulous job done to coordinate this challenge and put it together - I realize it must have been a tremendous undertaking. I hope enough things went right to make it worthwhile to do again…

I wanted to thank all of the groups and volunteers for putting together a great challenge. Your first year with the challenge was well organized I was impressed. Your volunteers were helpful and very informative. I was only able to get up to Long Island for 1 day and was able to get to 9 lighthouses. I can't wait until next year to do it again and finish it. Can you send me a brochure for next year?

What a terrific event!! ... We all had a great time - the boys were very excited about it.... I would like to thank the organizers and volunteers for a wonderful Long Island event. Everyone we ran into was very friendly and helpful. We will bring along some friends for next year's event... We felt that this was a well thought-out event and everything operated very smoothly. We appreciated the efforts of the volunteers at each of the sites.

I had
to make some comments on your First Long Island Lighthouse Challenge. All the
volunteers were GREAT, above and beyond the call of volunteering!!!!! ... The
cruise was spectacular, especially having someone on board that his family were
actually lighthouse keepers of two of the lights we got to see, nice added
touch. Also the cruise treated us to see the remnants of Gardiner's Island with
seals swimming around the island. The Captain got very close to the lighthouses
so we can take that close up shot. Overall, we really enjoyed the Challenge and
getting to meet other lighthouse enthusiasts from other states is always a
pleasure.

I want to congratulate you and the rest of your crew- you all did just a magnificent job on the First Annual LI Lighthouse Challenge. I want to specifically include Diane, Bob Scroope, Nancy Bahnsen, Chatt Chapman, Mike Seewald , Pam Setchell and a host of others I unfortunately don’t know the names of... I was impressed by the quality of the volunteers that were in place at the different Lighthouses- both those from the Chapter and from the individual organizations. They mostly seemed to be having as good a time as the participants.

We (two families from Pennsylvania) successfully completed the challenge... I had sent two emails to Chatt and Dawn and they were very helpful and deserve a special thank you. They were also very friendly at Eaton’s Neck. We also felt the buses ran smoothly and traffic wasn’t too bad considering we were on Long Island. The buses and cruise gave ample time to talk with other challenge participants. I hope I signed in at all the places but didn’t realize the importance of the signing-in for your counts. The coins are awesome and encouraged us to keep going to the end. Great job to all and I hope you continue with the challenge.

I must tell you that it was a very exciting weekend for me as I completed the challenge on my birthday! It was the best birthday weekend I could have asked for. I can only say KUDOS to all that made the challenge happen. Directions to all sites were right on the money, never once had to look at a map! Everyone that we met, either volunteers or participants were very friendly and such a pleasure to talk to and share stories with. Once I sort through all of my pictures, I will send a few. I was very pleased with my first look at them. Thank you once again for a wonderful weekend. I had such a wonderful time that I'm going to try for the TRIPLE CROWN! Many thanks to both of you - and to all your Long Island Lighthouse cohorts - for a great Challenge last weekend. We could easily tell that a lot of work went into making the event a success. We very much appreciate every bit of effort that went into making our visit to Long Island so good. The Kickoff Dinner was superb. "Little Lights" at our places at the tables was certainly a fun touch and all three presentations were really terrific. So glad to get to meet you there, if only briefly, Nancy, and to sit with lighthouse friends Karen & Dave Rosage from back home in Maryland. We thoroughly enjoyed coming up and spending the weekend getting acquainted with your lights and with you folk who obviously love them. (We had not seen any of Long Island's lights before.) We are so glad to see the work being done to preserve and restore these lights for the benefit of all. Thanks so much for offering the second cruise on Sunday evening 5/15/05. Although we would certainly have been pleased to have gotten on the original cruise the night before, we were so glad there was a second chance for those of us who missed out on that cruise... To have seen these four "at a distance" lights so close up and personal - with narrative, as well! - was a treat. Our pictures turned out very well, and we're grateful - since we wouldn't have gotten any pictures at all without the cruise to get us out within range of them. As we always do on a Challenge, we met so many great lighthouse lovers - many from our home state (MD) and many from other places. Fun to all be out there with the same goal, having a good time seeing the lights. Bravo, Long Island!!! We hope you'll make the L I Lighthouse challenge an annual event. You have a winner.

This was our first challenge. What a blast. The directions were exact. The volunteers who worked were nice. Most of all the scenery was great… The tokens were excellent.. Can not wait for next year! See you next year on the cruise!

I didn't realize that this was your first Challenge event until my wife and I arrived. We are members of the U.S. Lighthouse Society and the Chesapeake Chapter. We have been on the MD and NJ challenges in the past two years and all of you should hold your heads high with your accomplishments! I am a strong proponent of "doing your homework" and it was clearly evident you had done yours. My wife and I had been to see Montauk and Fire Island some years ago but all the others were new to us. …We succeeded in seeing all the lighthouses however with the exception of Plum Island because it was so hazy, we simply couldn't see it. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Thank you for a job well done!

Hope that this finds you all well rested and basking in the glory of a well thought out and beautifully executed first run of the Long Island Lighthouse Challenge. By all accounts, it was a grand success and speaking personally--we had a blast! From the dinner, to the cruise, to the road rally aspect of the Challenge itself--and not to forget the wonderful tour out to Huntington Harbor Light--it was a wonderful weekend.
Thank you all for making us Marylanders (and everyone else) feel so welcomed on the Island you call home. The thought and effort you put into planning the event was very apparent... Everything was running smoothly at all the lighthouses that we visited. Our kudos go out to you all. Please spread our thanks and congratulations to those that partnered with you on the event. Together, you are quite an impressive group. As the modern-day keepers of the Long Island Lighthouses (and what awesome Lights they are!), there is no doubt they are being well cared for and preserved under your watch. One of the neatest aspects of the Challenge is bringing lighthouse folks together... Take care friends and keep in touch. We will do the same.

Thank you!!! I made the drive from Middletown, PA especially for the Challenge (my first trip through the Big City and onto Long Island). I what to thank all of you for your hard work in making the weekend a success. The volunteers at Orient Point / Plum Island on Saturday afternoon and Huntington Harbor on Sunday morning especially stand out in my mind for their hospitality and cheer ... I had an extremely wonderful weekend and look forward to returning to LI in the near future. Thank you (all) very much for your efforts over the Challenge weekend.

Then how about trying for the Triple Crown?
The organizers of the Long Island Lighthouse Challenge, Maryland Lighthouse Challenge, and New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge "challenge" you to do all three in 2005! Anyone who completes this superhuman feat will get a special certificate (and lots of respect). Even if you don't do all three, make sure you do at least one this year Here are the dates:
