This rare artifact was acquired by the Long Island Chapter on April 23, 2001. Few of these boats are known to still exist. The boat will first be assessed, and the history of this boat, and others like it, is being researched. The boat will then be carefully restored by Chapter volunteers, with the asistance of the Long Island Maritime Museum and other maritime experts.
The boat arrived at the facilities of Kortchmar and Willner in Greenport on the morning of Monday, April 23. Fleet's Cove Boat Transport, of Islip, provided the gentle transportation for this important piece of history.
The Chapter's Executive Administrator, Merlon Wiggin, helps to unload the boat.
The markings on the transom identify the boat as being a part of the United States Lighthouse Service (USLHS).
