Welcome to the Long Island Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society. We are a chapter of, and work together with, the United States Lighthouse Society. We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to historic education and preservation, particularly in relation to the lighthouse history of the Long Island, NY area. . . . to assist, in every possible way, the restoration and preservation of Long Island's lighthouses, and to make these historic lighthouses available to the public.
. . . to research the history of Long Island's lighthouses, lightships, and related aids to navigation.
. . . to collect artifacts and lore related to Long Island's lighthouse heritage.
. . . to help concerned parties get involved with local restoration groups.
. . . to serve as the means of communication between all who care about the preservation of these unique symbols of our maritime heritage.
. . . to inform and entertain those interested in the past, present and future of Long Island's lighthouses by conducting special events, such as lectures, cruises, and tours.
. . . to maintain and constantly update a comprehensive research library and photographic archive containing material relating to Long Island's lighthouses, lightships, and navigational aids, and to make these resourcesd available to the public.
. . . to raise funds for local preservation efforts, such as the restoration, relighting and preservation of the endangered Plum Island lighthouse.
