This is a 375mm lens on display at Montauk Point.
Although we do not have much information on this lens at present, there is one particular
aspect that should be pointed out. The Fresnel lens is actually clear. The red is produced
by a red cylinder placed outside the lens. This is one of several methods employed over
the years to color the light from a lamp. Other methods included making red glass and, in
modern times, red acrylic lenses. The Markings: "I.L.P. 768-4" and "No. 397" appear on the housing. If anyone has more information on lenses such as this one, please contact us. |
